Discount Electric Trikes for Sale - Q & A
How can an electric-assist upgrade help?
Electric motors give the trike experience a little added ease. This is wonderful for those recovering from an injury or who may have a disability. For these individuals, it's a special kind of added cycling adaptation. Using an e-trike offers a nice balance between traditional cycling and full-on electric mobility you would have on a scooter.
Even for those who don't require the extra help, using an e-trike is a lot of fun. You can typically cruise up to 15mph depending on the style of battery and size of the tricycle. On a full charge, you should be able to go a distance from 10-30 miles.
How do electric tricycles work?
E-trikes typically have 3 key parts. There is a motor that fixes the hub of the front wheel, a battery (SLA or lithium-ion) that attaches below the seat, and a throttle on the handlebar. Many trikes of every style - upright, recumbent, and even tandem - can be outfitted with an electric-assist function. It is essentially the same process to set it up.
When using an electric-assist option, you start pedaling and will feel the motor engage. With the EMOJO Caddy E-Tricycle, for example, you'll feel a powerful "push"! One of our team members tried this and other EMOJO models at their HQ and can attest to this! You can also not pedal all and go full throttle at different speeds. It takes some getting used to, but you can confidently ride your new e-tricycle before you know it!
How can I upgrade a trike to electric?
By default, Trailmate tricycles are sold without the electric kit assembly but you can easily add the kit to your order in the product options section. Unless you have had previous experience installing an electric motor on a bike or trike, we would recommend taking everything to a local bike shop. Or, if you like, you can opt to have any Trailmate tricycle pre-assembled before shipment
By the way, there used to be separate electric kit upgrades available for Belize tricycles too. There still are electric options from Belize, but the electric motor assemblies are included with the trikes. These models include the Electric Buddy Trike (super popular with families and also available as non-electric), the Elek-Trike, and the E-Trike LI 24" Trike.
